Another nice thing about being home alone at Christmas
is that on Sunday when you go to church with the folks,
you get the back seat of the car to yourself.
There is no squeezing in,
shoulder to shoulder and thigh to thigh.
No sir.
You can sit back and stretch out and enjoy the luxury of empty space.
Because there is no sibling chatter, or banter, or noise during the drive
you can clearly hear
dear Mother
as she sings along to the Christmas tunes.
It is pure sweet enjoyment
to hear her lilting voice
raised in holiday merriment.
Gratifying to the soul it is.
Especially
when witnessed from
the spacious back seat.
